About our programs

The Center currently offers the following programs and services:

  • Medical Transportation
  • ADA Advocacy Site Survey
  • Wheelchair Ramp and Home Modifications
  • Peer Support
  • Information and Referral
  • Equipment Loan Closet
  • Lifetime Learning Program for Adults with Disabilities

The Center's Medical Transportation Program offers free round-trip transportation to qualified county residents attending medical service appointments, 3,189 trips were provided in 2002. 237 people were served in taking them to 2,194 appointments and transporting them 41,133 miles.  (contact: Phyllis)

The Center's Adult Day Service Program is a program for seniors and adults with disabilities. The program offers recreation, socialization, guest speakers, and off-site trips designed to challenge participants' minds and bodies. The program also benefits family caregivers who deserve respite from full-time care duties. In the year 2002, 44 people were enrolled in our adult day services program. They were in the Center a total of 16,356 hours, and our vans traveled 19,507 miles transporting them. Twenty volunteers help with our program. (contact: Karolyn)

Our wheelchair ramp and home modification program provides Lancaster and Fairfield County residents with mobility disabilities an opportunity to regain the full use of their homes and property. The construction is performed by a large group of church volunteers called the SMART Team. The Center pays for the materials, utilizing funds from the CDBG Grant and River Valley Rods and Customs-Fund Raiser Rods for Ramps. (contact: Susan)

Our peer support, ADA advocacy, ADA site surveys and information referral services are cost effective programs that assist Fairfield County residents with disabilities lead healthier lifestyles and ensure that they have access to the information on governmental programs available to them. These programs utilize the services of volunteers including Boy Scouts, local Lions Clubs, and local Churches. (contact: Sharon)
